i know it's been more than a few decades, mikey. there's a reason that "absolute power corrupts absolutely" is a well-known phrase. while i am more than happy to accept the tenets forming the foundations of most religious philosophies, i think organized religion, particularly on such a scale as catholicism has achieved, is one of the worst things ever to happen to the planet; it's right up there with gunpowder and combustion engines in terms of destructive repercussions. when i (very arbitrarily) chose that five-year span i was thinking mostly about the rash of molestation suits suddenly in the news, and how they drove a lot of people who had had a lot of blind faith in the church as an institution to change their minds about it.
